Your first session with a personal trainer should not be a mystery. With me it is a conversation, a movement check and a real workout, so you leave with a clear plan instead of a vague idea. I’m Emil “Leo” Stepnicki, a personal trainer in Koh Phangan, and this is exactly what happens when you book.
Start with a free consultation call
Before we train, we talk. You can request a free consultation call on my website or message me on WhatsApp. Tell me your goal (strength, fat loss, moving without pain, better conditioning or preparing for a fight), how long you are staying on the island and any injuries you carry. A few minutes is enough for both of us to know if we are a good fit.
What happens in your first session
- We talk through your goals and history. Your training background, past injuries, current pain, daily routine and how much time you can give. Injuries shape the programme from the very first exercise, not as an afterthought.
- I watch how you move. My background is elite athletics, so I look at how you move, not just what you lift. A few simple movements show me where you are strong, where you are stiff and what we should avoid or fix first.
- We train. You get a real workout at your level: hard enough to matter, never so hard that it wrecks you for the week. If something feels off, we change it on the spot.
- You leave with a plan. We agree how often to train, what to focus on and how we will adjust as you progress. Every programme is built around your goals and your body, and it keeps changing as you get fitter.
Who I train in Koh Phangan
For the past 10 years I have worked with complete beginners and competitive athletes alike. The people who book a first session usually fall into one of these groups:
- Beginners who want to start safely and not feel judged in a gym.
- Travellers and long-term residents who want to keep training on the island.
- People with a sore back or shoulder who want to move without pain and need a coach who works around it.
- Fighters and athletes who want strength, speed and conditioning. I spent 12 years as a professional sprinter, train combat sports myself and founded Phangan MMA.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to be fit before my first session?
No. We start from where you are. I set the level for you and adjust it as you improve.
Can I train with an injury or pain?
Yes. Tell me about it before we start, because it changes what we do. I work around injuries and past problems such as a sore back or shoulder. If you have a medical condition, check with your doctor first.
What should I bring?
Water, light clothes, comfortable shoes and a towel.
Do you offer online coaching?
Yes, I also coach by video call, which works well if you travel or leave the island.
